Pregnancy Back Issues - Complete Chiropractic - Allentown Pa 18106

Both Dr. Zerdecki and Dr. Barrett are certified in Webster Technique.

Webster Technique/Pregnancy Care– The Webster technique is a chiropractic analysis and gentle adjustment of the sacrum.  As with all chiropractic adjustments, our intent is to improve the nervous system so the body can function better.

As with all sacral adjustments, pelvic balance is improved. A balanced pelvis reduces undue tension in the attached muscles and ligaments.

In pregnant women, if the pelvis is not balanced, the uneven pulling on these muscles and ligaments may be restricting the baby’s ability to get into the best possible position for birth.

Although most frequently used with pregnant women, this analysis and adjustment can be used on any one!

More and more women are beginning to understand the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy.  By helping to align the pelvis and surrounding structures the body is able to be in a state of balance.  This allows for the best possible environment for the baby to develop in and allows mom to have the best pregnancy possible.  Prenatal chiropractors understand the uniqueness of a pregnant woman’s body and by using gentle, specific adjustments are able to help maintain a stress free and pain free nervous system.

As a woman’s pregnancy advances, postural changes occur in order to adapt to the expanding uterus.  These postural changes put a great deal of stress on the joints of the spine and pelvis and often times cause pain.

Chiropractors work on the joints and muscles of the spine to relieve some of the stress associated with these postural changes.  Common complaints during pregnancy that chiropractic can help with are:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Sciatica

Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy can help to reduce pain, shorten labor, decrease the need for medical interventions and decrease the pain associated with labor.

How does chiropractic care affect my baby?

The uterus is bound to the pelvis by ligaments.  As the uterus grows, this puts stress on those ligaments.  If the pelvis is in a balanced state the uterus can grow without any twist or torque.  This allows the optimum environment for the baby to move, grow, and get into the best position for birth. If the pelvis is unbalanced, the ligaments are pulled putting a torque on the uterus adding stress to the baby’s living environment.

Even if the baby is in the head down position at birth, often uterine constraint can stop the baby from moving into ideal presentation for delivery.  Any head position even slightly off during birth will slow down labor, and add pain to both the mother and baby. Many women have been told that their babies were too big, or labor “just slowed down” when it was really the baby’s presentation interfering with the normal process and progression. Avoidable interventions are implemented turning a natural process into an operative one.
